The Brief
Resilience & Wellbeing Challenge
How can the innovation ecosystem build resilience and wellbeing among founders and their teams?
Startup founders are the backbone of Western Australia’s innovation ecosystem, driving new ideas, building companies, and creating future economic and social impact. But behind this progress sits a growing challenge.
Insights from StartupWA’s latest founder survey (129 respondents) and Mental Health & Wellbeing Roundtable held in March highlight the scale of the issue: founders are experiencing high levels of stress, burnout, financial pressure and isolation, with many unaware of available support or hesitant to seek help.
Importantly, this is not just an individual challenge, it is a systemic one. Current ecosystem structures, expectations and support models are often not designed to proactively support founder wellbeing, leading to reactive interventions rather than sustained, preventative support.
This Challenge directly responds to that need.
Our Response
Running a business can feel isolating, but it doesn't have to be. Research consistently shows that having a supportive network is one of the strongest predictors of resilience during times of stress and challenge.
Here at BOSS, we’ve been wanting to create safe spaces for our local business owners to connect and gain support for quite a while, so this opportunity was a perfect fit.
Our Innovation Huddles allow solo-preneurs and micro-business owners to not be as isolated, but instead tap into a group of cheerleaders, friendly ears and ‘give it to me straight’ colleagues.
We want our Huddlers to feel comfortable with sharing wins, asking for advice, deciding AITA or brainstorming innovative solutions to that age-old quandary of ‘how do I get more clients’.
Two location-based groups, six Guest Experts, 18 sessions, (hopefully) 40 improved lives and businesses.
